E-tourist visa to Chinese nationals from July 30, 2015

e-visa   Union Government has announced to roll out e-tourist visa facility to Chinese nationals from July 30, 2015. Hong Kong and Macao nationals will also be provided with e-tourist visa facility along with Chinese citizens. This decision was taken in lines with promised made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard during his visit to China in May 2015. It should be noted that PM Modi had made this announcement notwithstanding frequent issuance of stapled visa by Chinese to Indian citizens from Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
About e-tourist visa facility
Union Government had launched this scheme as ‘tourist visa on arrival (VoA)’ in November 2014 for more than 40 countries and was extended to 36 more countries in April 2015. It is pre-authorization of Visa i.e. electronic travel authorisation given to foreigners prior to travel. Under this scheme, an applicant receives an email authorising him/her to travel to India after it is approved. On arrival, the visitor has to present the authorisation to the immigration authorities who will in turn allow them to enter into the country. The nomenclature of scheme was changed to present e-tourist visa facility in April 2015, in order to remove ambiguities faced by foreign tourists especially by scheme’s previous nomenclature VoA.

CCI imposes Rs. 420 crore fine on Hyundai for anti-

competitive practices

Hyundai   The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed fine of 420 crore rupees on the local unit of Hyundai Motor Co. The fined was imposed after CCI investigation had found that Hyundai was engaged in anti-competitive practices. The fine imposed on Hyundai is 2 per cent of its annual turnover in India in past 2 year viz. 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12. CCI also had found other carmakers like Mahindra Reva Electric Car Company and Premier Ltd in violation of competitive practices but did not impose fine on them. The CCI has notified Hyundai to deposit the penalty within 60 days from the order date and has warned these 3 carmakers to take corrective measures.
Anti-competitive practices: CCI in its investigation had found that Hyundai, Reva and Premier were restricting access to diagnostic tools and genuine spare parts in the market which distorted fair competition. This act had resulted in repairing and servicing of cars of these companies more expensive for consumers.

About Competition Commission of India (CCI)
CCI quasi-judicial statutory body whose predecessor was the MRTPC (Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission). It was established 2003 as per the provisions of The Competition Act, 2002 and became fully functional only by 2009. Google Loon

As per the MoU, Google will place 13 high-altitude balloons over the island nation to provide affordable high-speed 3G (3rd Generation) internet services to the entire country. Google Loon project: It is Google’s ambitious research and development project with the mission of providing Internet access to rural and remote areas. Royal Bengal Tiger population falls rapidly in

Sundarbans, Bangladesh

Royal Bengal Tiger p     The population of Royal Bengal Tiger in Sundarbans region of Bangladesh has declined sharply to 106 from 440 in 2004. It was revealed in recently released new Tiger census 2015 of Bangladesh. The Tiger Census was conducted by Bangladesh-India Joint Tiger Census Project. It was carried under the initiative of Strengthening Regional Cooperation for Wildlife Protection in Asia Project. Financial support to this initiative was provided by the World Bank.
Methodology: Census 2015 was conducted by using modern technology of hidden cameras to count tigers. Previous methodology was based on count of counting pug marks. The camera tapping method is more accurate than past method.
Reasons for decline in Population: The rapid decline in population was attributed to loss of habitat, lack of proper forest management, unchecked wildlife poaching and animal-human conflict in the world’s largest mangrove forests of Sunderbans. It should be noted that in Bangladesh, Sunderbans are spread over 6097 sq.km and it is only natural habitat of Royal Bengal tigers. There are around 74 tigers on the Indian side of the Sundarbans which stretches for nearly 4,000 miles across both countries.
Royal Bengal tiger species: It is one the 6 surviving and 3 extinct subspecies of tiger mainly found in India. It is present in smaller populations in Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan Myanmar and China.

IndusInd Bank acquires RBS’ bullion financing business

for Rs 4,100 crore

download (18)     IndusInd Bank has acquired the diamond and jewellery (bullion) financing business and related deposit portfolio of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) for 4,100 crore rupees on 28 July 2015. Britain’s largest public bank Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) was in talks with IndusInd Bank to sell off its bullion financing business and had signed a non-binding agreement in April 2015. According to the agreement RBS’s employees within the diamond and jewellery clients in India would be transferred to IndusInd Bank. RBS in 2008, had acquired ABN AMRO Bank the oldest banks in diamond and jewellery financing and started dealing in bullion financing in India through RBS Mumbai branch. The reason behind this sell-off comes on the back of RBS’s decision in 2013 to exit its banking operations from India and to consolidate its business in UK and Western Europe. However, it has decided to retain its back-office operations in India and has moved over 60 back-offices roles from the UK to India that has workforce of 12,000 people. Prior to RBS’s decision it had shut down its 23 out of 31 branches in India and had also sold off its credit card business, commercial banking portfolios and mortgage business  to Ratnakar Bank Ltd (RBL) Bank in 2013.
Note: The partnership agreement with ABN AMRO and RBS’ global knowledge and its ready bullion financing loan book of 4,500 crore rupees will help IndusInd to engage with the customers in the industry globally.
